Literature Personal Philosophy

Reading is defined as the action or skill of reading written material silently or out loud. To me reading is more then that, it is understanding and learning from others work. I don’t want to even call it work I feel like it is an art. It is a way to see the world from a different set of eyes. To became a different person in a world so looked at differently then your own. That’s when I really started reading books. 

I used to read because I thought of it as work and now looking back its sad that I used to view it as that. For me it was a process; open book, read, close book. I deem that I am not the only one who thinks like that, but now I know there is so much more. When I was taught to read I was not encouraged I was forced, and once I picked up a book for no other persons interest but my own that’s when literature started getting interesting. In school we aren't taught the beauty of learning we are taught a process, and that is why I think so many people don’t read, nor even enjoy learning. Because its not even about learning its about thinking. All literature and poetry are just thoughts, written down in an artistic way. Waiting to be observed and thought about by different minds making different conclusions to the same story, over and over again.  

I've always thought that I was me, however I have came to find that I am not me, I am everyone I meet, see, or even hear about, and together they make me who I am. Everyone you meet has changed your life, maybe not drastically, but with your experience together. An experience with literature can change your life. Reading has also opened my mind to different ideals and has made me think outside of the box. This is not tied to a certain book its just universal to all the books out there. When I am put into the authors hands every time I read and to go along that ride it the most excitable thing ever. It makes me want to live life at its highs and lows and enjoy every moment of it, and for someone to put a little part of life down on a peace of paper is the best thing they can do. That is why I enjoy literature ever so. 

I think people do read but aren't aware of it, especially if they like music. I can not recall how many times I have looked up lyrics to an song and thought about them. Most music is just singing poetry, if someone can understand the lyrics to a song it can be easily applied to poetry. That’s how I became fascinated with poetry, it was around me all the time and I did not even notice it. Its amazing how literature can hide behind things I see or hear everyday, like movies, TV shows, songs, speech, and even advertisement. So for someone to say they have nothing to do with books, reading, poetry, and literature is just a lie. Literature is everywhere and everyone is a part of it, even if they take notice to it or not.  

I believe that everything has beauty and ugliness. For someone to not notice the beauty that lies right next to them is an ugly thing, and to notice something that is ugly and not find it beautiful is ignorant. That is literature it lies underneath us with its beautiful ugliness and is herd as the minds of people hear it.
